The Flood Control District of Maricopa
County was created to protect citizens and property from injury and
severe damage due to flooding. To this end, we continuously work to
educate the public of the dangers and damages that are associated with
flooding and to provide them with information concerning the location of
delineated 100-year floodplains. The District participates in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and the Community Rating System (CRS) program. The CRS program allows property owners to receive flood insurance premium discounts on their flood insurance premiums based upon how well local communities perform floodplain management. Unincorporated Maricopa County is currently rated as a Class 5 community in the CRS program, which means discount of 25% on flood insurance for structures located in delineated Special Flood Hazard Areas. The District provides Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) information for most areas within Maricopa County to determine whether a property is located within the boundaries of a delineated 100-year floodplain, and therefore, making it necessary to purchase flood insurance. The District's Regulatory Division provides the determination service. More information about this service can be obtained by calling 602/506-1501 and asking for a Floodplain Representative. The District also has elevation certificates on file for residences constructed or placed in the floodplain in unincorporated Maricopa County after 1986. The floodplain limits for delineated 100-year floodplains within Maricopa County are available online by visiting the District's website at www.fcd.maricopa.gov. Also, the elevation certificates that the District has for residences located in unincorporated Maricopa County may be accessed through the District's website.
