TECH TALK

Mashups
Mashups are the combining of more than one API into a new feature. An example of a mashup is the integration of all the homes for sale in a region and their location on a map.

Gadgets
Sometimes referred to as gizmos, a gadget is a small technological object that has a particular function. An example of a gadget is a countdown to a special occassion.

Widgets
Made up of mostly html, CSS, and JavaScript, widgets are small programs that can be placed on your website, MySpace or desktop. They can be either simple or full-blown applications. Almost anyone can make a widget - no programming experience is needed!

Blog
A blog (a contraction of the term "web log") is a website usually maintained by an individual with regular posts.

Wordle
A wordle, also known as a word cloud, is a collection of words or tags displayed in a freeform visual appearance rather than plain block text. See an example below and then click on the link to create your own. FUN!

What is 3G anyway?
3G is the third generation of mobile phone standards. 3G technologies enable network operators to offer users a wider range of more advanced services while achieving greater network capacity through improved spectral efficiency. Services include wide-area wireless voice telephony, video calls, and broadband wireless data, all in a mobile environment. Additional features also include HSPA data transmission capabilities able to deliver speeds up to 14.4Mbit/s on the downlink and 5.8Mbit/s on the uplink. Read more at Wikipedia
