Not Business as Usual. Bryan’s favorite course was a two-day technology class with Joeann Fossland. “I got talked into buying a tablet computer—that’s been fantastic,” he says. “I’m more mobile. I can write up contracts right in the car and have clients sign it on the laptop.” When asked how else the GRI classes changed the way he does business, Bryan points to the ideas he picked up on handling challenging clients or situations. Even after years of work in the field, he acknowledges, there are still things to be learned about working with people. The GRI coursework also inspired him to draft a formal business plan. “Before, I was just kind of winging it,” says Bryan. “[A business plan] keeps you more focused on what you need to be doing that’s working and to stay away from things that don’t work.” Field Trips. Because class options were limited in his area, Bryan traveled to Flagstaff for some of his courses. He encourages others to take classes around the state. “You can get a little more out of them, are a little more focused,” he explains. “Plus it’s great networking. And I’ve got those people as connections now for referrals down the road.” Getting Off the Fence. If you’ve been considering GRI, Bryan feels it’s definitely worth it. He describes the classes as great, up to date and inspiring. “I put it off,” he acknowledges. “I never really was concerned with the designations themselves. But I did learn an awful lot.” When asked if he thinks a designation can be credited with earning a REALTOR® more money, Bryan replies, “The type of REALTOR® that gets the designation tends to be more on top of things, to take the business more seriously than those who don’t take the GRI. I don’t think you can say that it will definitely make you more money. But I have gained more knowledge, which probably will make me more money!” He plans to use his new designation in his personal business marketing. Earn a Designation. Earn More!
