Tyler Strout Vision Award
Frank Dickens celebrated his 30th year in real estate this August—and what a contribution he has made in those 30 years. In addition to being a top-producing salesperson and frequent REALTOR® of the Year award winner, he has served as president of AAR, president of his local association, chair of AAR’s Legislative & Political Affairs committee, chair of NAR’s Land Use & Environment committee, chair of the Arizona Department of Real Estate’s advisory board and much more.

What sets this year’s Vision Award recipient apart, according to Tim Hatlestad of RE/MAX Commercial Investment in Scottsdale, is his selflessness. When an ordinary person sees something that’s wrong, they assume somebody else will step up. Not Frank. AAR Senior Vice President Barb Freestone echoes this, “Frank never turns away from a request for help, regardless of how easy, difficult or controversial it may be.”
Judy Jackson, the executive officer of the Northern Arizona Association of REALTORS®, describes Frank as a political junkie. Certainly, he is well known for the Wal-Mart campaign he headed, which won a tough election that paved the way for big box stores to set up shop in Flagstaff.
Frank also served as the chairman and spokesperson for the Prop. 100 Protect Our Homes campaign. AAR CEO Tom Farley tells the story of a TV debate when other ballot measure campaigns had hired-gun spokespeople. Frank was a little nervous to go up against these high-dollar professionals. But when the lights came on and the camera was rolling, says Tom, Frank’s presentation was better than anyone else’s.
Various friends and colleagues describe him as charismatic, passionate, humble, witty, dedicated, confident and caring. AAR is proud to describe Frank Dickens as this year’s 2009 Tyler Strout Vision Award winner.

Attorney Chris Combs recalls a trial in which the opposing counsel attempted to cross examine Don on a portion of the REALTOR® Code of Ethics. “It was great,” Chris says. “The lawyer asked, ‘What does this rule mean?’ And Don said, ‘Well, when I wrote it…’ The jury loved him.”
He is also a well-loved instructor. Student reviews from Don’s classes consistently praise his experience, extensive knowledge of his subject area and ability to provide real-life examples. One recent student said, “He is outstanding in every category. I will take as many classes as I can from him.”
Marge Lindsay of John Hall & Associates in Phoenix mentioned that if she ever gets on a trivia show, she definitely wants Don to be her lifeline. He has been one of the association’s lifelines for many years—steady, forceful and knowledgeable. AAR is pleased to express our gratitude and admiration to Don Martin, 2009 Arthur G. Crozier Distinguished Service Award honoree.
