What Your Dues Dollars Deliver: A Win for Arizona Homeowners

On September 4, Governor Jan Brewer signed HB 2008, which repealed SB 1271 and its controversial changes to the state’s anti-deficiency statute. Under the revised statute, homeowners with second/vacation homes, rental property and family-owned property would have lost their anti-deficiency protection.

AAR’s legislative team of staff members and volunteer leaders worked tirelessly to prevent this statute from taking effect. First, AAR worked with the bill’s sponsor, who agreed to push to have the legislation repealed. Then, AAR petitioned the governor to amend the Call for Special Session to address the issues presented by SB 1271. Finally, AAR lobbied legislators and the governor to pass HB 2008, which repealed SB 1271.

AAR will continue to work with legislators and industry stakeholders to protect homeowner rights at the Capitol.
